| Outlook Express Setup
In most cases, problems sending or receiving email in
Outlook Express can be solved by correcting wrong
configuration items in the Tools...Accounts section.
- Open Outlook Express
- Click on the Tools menu, and click Accounts...
- Click on the Mail tab, and select your BeonLine account by clicking on it
once. The account will usually be named
mail.beol.net, but can be different.
- Then, click on the Properties button on the right
side.
- Under the General tab, set the Name to your full
name (ex: John Smith). For email address, use
username@beol.net.
Organization and reply-to address are not necessary,
but you can fill them in if you wish. Make sure the
box labeled "Include this account when receiving
mail or synchronizing" is checked.
- Under the Servers tab, it should say that the
type of incoming mail server is POP3. If it says
IMAP or HTTP, you will need to remove the account
and recreate it.
For the incoming server name, enter "pop.gmail.com".
For the outgoing server name, enter "smtp.gmail.com".
The incoming mail server account name should be entered as your
full email address. Enter your password in the next box, and
choose whether or not you want it to save the
password.
Be sure that "Log on using
Secure Password Authentication" is NOT checked and
"My server requires authentication" IS checked.
- Nothing should need to be changed under the Connection or Security tabs.
- Under Advanced, ensure that BOTH of the
boxes requiring SSL are checked. Set the outgoing (SMTP)
port to 465, and the incoming (POP3) port
to 995. 1 Minute is a good
timeout setting to use. If you have problems with
frequent timeouts, you can adjust it. You should
not check the box labeled "Leave a copy
of messages on server" unless you check this email
account from multiple computers and need to receive
all messages on all of them. If you
need to check this box, make sure that you check the
next one labeled "Remove from server after X days",
and select a fairly low number like 3 or 5 as the
number of days. If you leave mail on the server for
too long, your mailbox will fill up,
and you will not be able to receive any more.
